Nyerere National park which was known as Selous Game reserve is Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary found in Tanzania. It lies south of Mikumi and has airstrips and tracks connecting the lodges and camps. By road there’s two ways to go in the park. From Morogoro via Kisaki is matambwe gate. It takes 6 hrs from Morogoro town on rough road. From Dar es salaam city via Kibiti to mtemere gate takes 5 hrs on tarmac and rough road. Also there’s another short way from Dar es salaam via Kisarawe takes 3:30 hrs. The park has different lakes such as Manze, Siwandu, Mzizimia, and Tagalala. In northeast the great Ruaha and Rufiji River create a vast inland delta. A maze of seasonal channels flanked by grassy plains, dunes, steep banks and borassus palm forests, Hippos, crocodiles and Carmine bee-eaters are common. Animals likely to be found are lions, elephants, large numbers of zebras, Impalas and buffaloes inhabit the savannas, while Sables, greater kudus and Sharpe’s grysboks browse the Miombo woodlands and wild dogs which are rare to be found in other parks,can be found here. Activities are boat riding, walking safari, game viewing and fish spotting.
